CINEMA CHURCH [EVANGELICAL CHRIST CHURCH]
Venue

The Evangelical Christ Church in Oberursel is the largest Protestant church in the city and was built around 1900 as an impressive Art Nouveau church. Its artistic Art Nouveau stained glass windows are particularly worth seeing. For the Taunale, the listed church is transformed into a special CinemaChurch. Underneath the historic architecture and the atmospheric light of the windows, feature films with suitable short films as pre-shows, accompanied by film discussions with the filmmakers and an art exhibition, are shown. In this unique way, the CinemaChurch becomes an extraordinary venue for contemporary film culture in the middle of Oberursel.

The cinema is operated by the Kinopolis Group, a family-owned business with over 120 years of history and one of Germany’s most traditional cinema companies. For the Taunale, this state-of-the-art multiplex transforms into one of the festival’s central venues: Here, feature films are screened with accompanying short films as opening acts, followed by discussions with the filmmakers, while an art exhibition with an opening reception complements the program with visual arts. In this way, Kinopolis combines state-of-the-art cinema technology with the special flair of an international film festival.

CASABLANCA ART HOUSE
Venue

The CasaBlanca Art House cinema in Bad Soden am Taunus is a charming single-screen theater with a very special atmosphere, which owes its name to the legendary re-release screening of „Casablanca.“ In 2021, Javier Lozano and Irene Bräuninger took over the theater and, with a fresh start, revitalized it for the present and the future—since then, it has been screening hand-picked films, original-language versions, and hosting special events such as readings, cabaret, and music. The inviting auditorium features cozy red plush armchairs and a bar with a long counter where patrons can mingle before and after the screening. For the Taunale, the Casablanca becomes an intimate venue for feature-length films, with short films screened as openers followed by post-screening discussions with the filmmakers. In this way, the small but exquisite cinema combines an authentic cinephile atmosphere with the special experience of an international film festival right in the heart of Bad Soden.

Since its opening in October 1972, the Eschborn K has been a local institution and is one of the oldest municipal cinemas in Germany. Operated by the Volksbildungswerk Eschborn e.V. and supported by the city of Eschborn, the „K“ has long stood not just for cinema, but for a diverse range of cultural offerings including concerts, cabaret, performance art, and art exhibitions. With its charming club atmosphere, the cinema has received numerous awards, including six consecutive Hessian Film and Cinema Awards for non-commercial cinemas. For the Taunale, the Eschborn K becomes a special venue where feature films are shown with short films as supporting programs, accompanied by film discussions with the filmmakers. In this way, the traditional cinema combines its long-standing curatorial commitment with the special flair of an international film festival in the heart of the Main-Taunus district.

Rushmoor Park
OPEN AIR SHORT FILM NIGHT

Rushmoor Park, covering about 2.6 hectares, is Oberursel’s second-largest park and is idyllically situated on the edge of downtown, surrounding a small pond where the Christuskirche is reflected in the water in the evening. Named after the English sister city of Rushmoor, the park offers a particularly atmospheric open-air setting with its mature trees, pond, and view of the Feldberg. For the Taunale festival, the park is transformed into an open-air cinema for two short-film evenings, featuring free screenings of international short films—accompanied by live music, food, and drinks. This turns Rushmoor Park into a cozy open-air gathering place where film culture, music, and socializing come together in the heart of nature.

Spa Park
Open-Air Film Night

Covering approximately 44 hectares, the Bad Homburg Spa Park is one of Germany’s largest and most beautiful spa park landscapes and is a designated historic site located right in the heart of the city. Designed about 150 years ago in the style of an English landscape park by the famous Prussian director of horticulture Peter Joseph Lenné on behalf of François Blanc, the grounds continue to impress visitors today with their expansive meadows, mature trees, and a wild and romantic pond. Historic buildings such as the Bad Homburg Casino, the Kaiser-Wilhelms-Bad, and the Thai Salas line the paths and tell the story of the eventful history of this former world-renowned spa town. For the Taunale festival, the bandstand in the spa park transforms into an atmospheric open-air stage on a balmy evening, where a feature-length film is screened with a short film as the opening act. In this way, the spa park combines historic charm and nature with the special experience of an open-air movie night under the stars.

Situated in the heart of the city, the hotel is a creative space with its own art gallery and, with its partner THIIRDPLACE, also offers a premium location for events and gatherings. After the second short film evening of the Taunale, the O&O Hotel becomes the stage for the After Shorts Party, where filmmakers, guests, and the audience can bring the evening to a close together.
