LES MOREAUS – BY KLAUS REICHERT JR.
The Moreaus
Klaus Reichert Jr., the founder of the artist group Gotensieben, grew up in a butcher shop. Even as a very young boy, he saw people slaughtering animals. He slept in a room above the slaughterhouse in a bed full of stuffed animals.
One morning, Klaus woke up and all his darlings had been cut up. At first, he thought he had dismembered the animals himself in a dream.
In reality, it was his aunt who crept into the room at night and slaughtered the animals in a fit of paranoia. This trauma continues to haunt the artist to this day.
Films like Frankenstein and The Island of Dr. Moreau, which horrified and terrified audiences, brought KR a sense of calm. His subconscious recognized in these films a guide to piece together fractured beings and heal childhood trauma.
